Kindly help me out. Oron Joffe This thread has been around for a long time, and thre are different questions and many good suggestions on it already. The common thread seems to be that browser downloads are failing before completion, while other network comnunication is working.
In my experience, these are the most common causes and solutions:. You are using an ADSL connection to the net, and its speed is set too high.
Because DSL runs on analogue lines, there is a balance to be struck between speed and error rate. What tends to happen is that a fast download will cause an error, and your connection will be reset, stopping the download. You can call your ISP and ask them to help. They should be able to see how many times your connection has been reset recently, and can also observe the sound-to-noise ratio SNR ratio on your line.
Alternatively, you can try using NetLimiter or similar software as suggestied by thecount If you are asking the question in this forum, chances are you don't know what that means, so get a TCP-optimising package and run it on your PC.
This will speed up all your network communications and may help with the downloads. The Internet Explorer cache is set to a very high value. A reasonable value is somewhere between 10 and MB. A much higher value will cause the system to slow down over time, and can affect browsing and downloading in particular.
I don't thing this happened to the original poster of the thread, but it may be the case for others. To change the settings, click on the cog icon in IE and choose Internet options, then change the setting as shown in the screenshot below. Jennifer I would like to say thank you, Oron. You're comment about downloads being too fast for the computer got me thinking.
I was having the same problem, but only when I was using a torrent client. I went in and put a limit on the download speed and have not had any problems since.
Once again, thank you. I have broadband that starts off really fast and slows down but not in a few seconds, and something as small as a mp3 file, would start off downloading which it'll complete in 32 secs max, but after a few minutes hmm lets say 10 mins, any other download would take at least triple the amount of time, I was meant to rate the above 4 stars but hit 2 i think, Sorry.
If so, please disregard my response. The download speed is "dictated" by the headers in the HTTP response sent from the server, or, if it's dynamic content, it is generated by a script at least most of the time, ie PHP In either case, it is specified with the "Content-Length" part of the header. Is 5GHz Wireless better than 2. What is the actual real-life speed of wireless networks? I can't connect to my router's admin interface? Access Point? What is considered good DSL line attenuation?
Outlook cannot connect to your mail server? Many sites that host hundreds of different files keep them on multiple servers or mirror sites.
If you have difficulty downloading the file, try getting it from a different server. If the file you are attempting to download is popular or was recently released, the server could be overloaded with simultaneous user requests or be experiencing problems.
Try downloading the file at a later time, when the server load may be less or the server problems are resolved. Home Help Internet Internet Help. Last edited by Onibejb ; 7 Oct, pm. Your ISP especially if it is a cable provider is now throttling because net neutrality is gone.
They all hope none of us will notice this as it's their first step in tiering the internet. I have tested every download for the last several months using a number of different apps and protocols. They hope we will argue among ourselves and the content providers, etc. This is happening and I urge you all to start complaining to your ISPs so we can cause a big stink before it's too late.
Plug in the power cord to the router. Then you start a download -- and what was formerly a fast Internet connection turns into a slower-than-dialup experience. What happened? Why Web browsing slows down when downloading files. Believe it or not, this is common. If you're like me, you have a fast fiber, DSL or cable modem hookup to the Internet, directly hooked to your computer.
